About Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara National Park is a compact gem nestled between the Great Rift Valley escarpment and the alkaline Lake Manyara. Despite its small size (330 square kilometers), the park offers incredible biodiversity and some of Tanzania's most spectacular scenery.

The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, a rare behavior observed in only a few places in Africa. Large flocks of flamingos create stunning pink carpets on the alkaline lake, while the groundwater forest is home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys.

The park encompasses five distinct vegetation zones, from groundwater forest to acacia woodland and open grassland. Lake Manyara itself is a shallow soda lake that expands and contracts with the seasons, attracting vast numbers of waterbirds.

Often visited as a day trip from Arusha or as part of northern circuit safaris, Lake Manyara offers an excellent introduction to Tanzania's wildlife. The compact nature makes it perfect for accessible safari experiences with shorter driving distances.
