About Ruaha National Park

Ruaha National Park is Tanzania's largest national park, covering 20,226 square kilometers of pristine wilderness in central Tanzania. Named after the Great Ruaha River, this remote park offers an authentic, uncrowded safari experience.

The park is famous for its large predator populations—home to 10% of Africa's lions and significant numbers of leopards, cheetahs, and the endangered African wild dog. The dramatic landscape features ancient baobab trees, rocky escarpments, and seasonal rivers.

Best Time to Visit

June to October (Dry Season): The best time to visit Ruaha with excellent game viewing as animals concentrate around the Great Ruaha River and remaining waterholes. Easier predator sightings and pleasant temperatures. Peak season with higher rates.

January to February: Hot and dry conditions with excellent wildlife viewing. The landscape is drier, creating dramatic photography opportunities with parched earth and ancient baobabs.

November to May (Green Season): Lower visitor numbers and reduced rates. Some camps close during heavy rains (March-April). The landscape transforms into lush greenery, with incredible bird watching opportunities including migratory species.
