About Tarangire

Tarangire National Park, covering 2,850 square kilometers in northern Tanzania, is famous for its large elephant herds and iconic baobab trees that create one of Africa's most photogenic landscapes. During the dry season, the park hosts the highest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem.

The Tarangire River, the park's lifeline, attracts massive numbers of animals during the dry months, creating spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities. Herds of up to 300 elephants gather at the river, along with wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, and various antelope species.

Ancient baobab trees, some over 1,000 years old, dominate the landscape and provide shelter for numerous animals and birds. The park's diverse habitats—from river woodlands to acacia parklands and seasonal swamps—support over 550 bird species.

The park is also home to tree-climbing pythons and rare species like the fringe-eared oryx and gerenuk, making it one of Tanzania's premier wildlife destinations.

Best Time to Visit

June to October (Dry Season): The best time to visit Tarangire. Animals concentrate around the Tarangire River, creating exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities. Expect large elephant herds, predators, and diverse herbivores gathering at water sources.

November to May (Wet Season): The park transforms into a lush green paradise with migratory birds arriving in huge numbers. Many animals disperse to other areas, but those that remain enjoy abundant vegetation. Fewer tourists and lower rates make this an attractive option.
